Babies and children are everywhere. And while it is, of course, a massively happy event when friends or family members happily announce they are about to start or grow their family, the painful truth is that pregnancy is not as easily achievable for every couple who wants a family. And many couples can find themselves in a difficult and upsetting situation where they may have to find that having a family will not be possible for them at all.
Parents may feel like their children are driving them crazy - or perhaps shaving years off their lives with worry or grief. But a new Danish study suggests that it is couples with infertility problems who are at an increased risk of poorer mental health and premature death. One of the biggest challenges of this approach is it doesn’t allow the grieving processing to begin and end.
The main symptom of infertility is not being able to get pregnant. There may be no other symptoms. For women, if there are symptoms, they are usually related to the cause of infertility.
Certain factors may interfere with getting pregnant. However, these factors do not guarantee you will be infertile. For women, those factors can include:
For men, factors include:
There are as many reasons for remaining childless as there are women but, in our theoretical model, women remain childless for four distinct reasons.
Natural sterility: This refers to the innate biological impossibility of having children, which does not depend on the level of education or wealth. It affects at least 2% of couples.
Poverty-driven childlessness: Low-educated women may remain childless, mainly because of untreated venereal diseases, pregnancy-related infections, malnutrition, or pollution.
Opportunity-driven childlessness: Some women remain childless because they face a high time cost of having children. Highly educated women earn high wages, and face a high opportunity cost when they are not at work. This category also includes women who prefer not to have children because they are single.
Childlessness treatment is based on the cause of your infertility. It can range from medicines to implanting an embryo through assisted reproductive technology (ART).
For men
The issues that affect fertility can include hormone imbalances or erectile dysfunction. These issues can be treated with medicine. Other issues could include blockages in the tubes that carry sperm or varicoceles in the testicles. These can be repaired with surgery.
For women
The treatment can also include medicine or surgery, depending on the underlying problem. The most common medicines used to treat female infertility stimulate the ovaries. This helps the ovaries produce more eggs and increases the chances of getting pregnant. Surgery can be done if there are blockages or problems with the fallopian tubes. It also is used to remove areas of endometriosis (when uterine tissue grows outside the uterus), fibroids, polyps, or scarring, which all can affect fertility.
Some causes of infertility can’t be prevented or avoided. But both men and women can take steps to increase their chances of pregnancy.
Men should:
Women should:
Yes, lifestyle plays a very important role in one’s fertility. Stress, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, chemical exposure at work, excessive use of alcohol, smoke, drug dependence etc. are linked to infertility. Since good physical strength and capacity are essential for conception, improper diet patterns followed by our generation impacts fertility. Diet abnormalities, to call such diet patterns, vitiate hormones, deplete tissues and strength and impact the quality of sperms and eggs.
Yogasana, breathing techniques and meditation can stimulate and relax the blood flow to the pelvic area, uterus and digestive organs. Yoga reduces stress, strengthens immune system, improves ovarian functions, improves blood flow to uterus, and corrects hormonal imbalance.
While there are many medically known causes to Infertility like certain medical conditions, medications, age, exposure to chemicals and more, there are some couples who fall under Unexplained Infertility. They fail to conceive even with regular unprotected sex yet, no medical tests show any kind of abnormality in them..
